Female Koel Most of us have heard the Koel's call, a melodious kuoo. It’s one of India's best-known bird-calls, rising in scale and intensity to reach a feverish peak before ending abruptly. Surprisingly, most people seem clueless about the bird's appearance, The male is glossy black with a striking red eye and the female is as shown above ;)
