Commercial Linux based web developer products

Have been experimenting with a wide variety of web developer tools for Linux mostly commercial, PHPed 3, Zend Studio 2.5, Quanta Gold 3 and somewhere down the line the Crossover Office 1.0.1

Though each of them merit a complete review the most satisfying from me was IE5.5 on Linux. Except for a few gifs not rendering properly and the dynamic fonts not downloading IE works better under CXOffice. The best part is that the Rich Text Edit control using which I had created a WYSIWYG HTML editor (See https://www.sanisoft.com/editor for a scaled down version) also works!!

Will be writing a review of PHPed for Linux later in the day…

  • Crossover Office rocks. Seriously. Since I got it, I have given up on OpenOffice, and use Microsoft Office 2000 (basically powerpoint). Windows may be the suckiest apology for an OS that the world has ever seen, but MS Office rocks (as long as you don’t use Outlook – the source of every known virus today).

Try mediaplayer and other stuff as well! It is installed when you install MS Office under CXO.

    • Actually I have been unable to install Office 2000 – most likely my CD is not the standard install CD. However Office 97 installed perfectly and Windows Media Player from one of the PCQ CD works real cool. BTW can anyone tell how is Outlook Express under CXO

  • Wow! A nifty editor; sure comes in handy. Thanks

    • Thanks – take it if you like it, dont ask for the back end files 😉
BTW I am building a LJ client around it – will have a spell check and theasaurus

  • 🙂

Way to go pal………. the ed is damn cool……. did try PHPed 3, Zend Studio 2.5 felt it was nothing but terrible bloatware….
